Traveling on 2 wheels with us old broads…

NO RAIN!!!

It was a fantastic day!!  First of all, no rain!  Temperatures were moderate and the sights were great.

Our first sightseeing stop was at the Crazy Horse Memorial.  Those of you that have been there know what I am talking about.  Those of you that haven’t – you have got to go!  So much history.  Very, very interesting.  Wonderful scenery.  After we saw this I was expecting Rushmore to be really huge.  That was not the case.  It was a very impressive sight but (hands down) the Crazy Horse was much better.

We have had a wonderful time so far but now we are feeling the pressure of returning to reality…  and in a timely fashion.  I think any of us would have loved to spend several days in South Dakota.  There was so much to see and do.  Maybe next time we will make this on the front end of our trip so we won’t feel so rushed.

Anyway, we knew we were going to have to hit the road as soon as the tourist thing was done.  And that’s exactly what we did.  Leaving Rapid City headed east.  We are watching storms in Kansas City and Oklahoma City.  We did manage to stop at Wall Drug (www.walldrug.com) .  If you are ever in this part of the world you must stop here.  But plan on spending several hours (at the very least).  Unfortunately we didn’t have that kind of time but we did stop and get an idea what folks (Dot and Linda) were talking about.  Massive. Unbelievable.  You just can’t fathom!

So back on I90 to Murdo, where we picked up US83 south.  This was a nice quiet ride with slow, sweeping curves and rolling hills all the way to Mission.  Then through the Rosebud Indian Reservation until we crossed the Nebraska line.

We have stopped for the night in Valentine.  Just the name conjurs up visions of a post office that is overwhelmed on February 14.  I’ll have to check that out before we leave!

  1. ALRIGHT!! I AM HAPPY TO KNOW THAT YOU GUYS THOUGHT WALL DRUG WAS WORTH THE STOP. I FEARED IT WOULD BE RATHER ANTICLIMATIC AFTER ALL OF THE TRAVELING AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED IN THE LAST TEN DAYS. WE FELT, AS YOU DID, THAT WE WOULD HAVE LOVED SPENDING A FEW DAYS IN THE DAKOTAS BUT DIDN’T HAVE TIME. WE MAY EXPLORE IT AGAIN BUT ON FOUR WHEELS! WANT TO COME WITH US??! TRAVEL SAFELY ON YOUR WAY BACK HOME.

  2. Looks like you had a great time, with great memories to last a lifetime. Glad it didnt rain. Thank you for sharing!
