Traveling on 2 wheels with us old broads…

Just a quick note to let you all know that we arrived safely in Camden around 5:30 this afternoon.  The last day on the road went well.  After leaving Birmingham, we found ourselves in a BUNCH of traffic.  It finally dawned on us that we were in the middle of  “game day” traffic.  Not sure who Alabama was playing, but I do know for a fact that the game was in Tuscaloosa.  Not too terribly bad though.  It only took us about and hour and 40 minutes to go 40 miles.

We opted for US82 and US278 from Tuscaloosa, instead of I20.  This route took us through Indianola, MS.  For those that may not know, this is the birthplace and childhood home of BB King.  Even a BB King museum, although we didn’t take the time for it today.  After stopping a couple of the locals and being directed to the same place by both, we found our way to Pea Soup’s on the west side of town.  Now they don’t serve pea soup – or even have it on the menu – just a high school coach’s nickname for one of his players that happened to stick.  Anyway, the food was awesome.  Mary had a floating burger…  it was a hamburger “floating” in chili, with cheese and slaw.  Had to eat it with a fork.  Kinda different but really good.  The counter girl talked me into the fried shrimp.  Now we have eaten shrimp all over the place these past several days – especially on the Atlantic coast.  It is a shame that the best shrimp I had was here, at Pea Soup’s, only about 2 1/2 hours from Camden.  They were about the size of a child’s hand, hand battered and fried to perfection.  And you know what else….   they had onion rings!  Delicious.  Now that’s what I call a meal!  Now this place is definitely close enough for a return trip.

All the “doggie kids” were glad to see us.  Unfortunately, we got a report that the two younger ones misbehaved.  We’re going to have to have a serious talk… but let’s do it tomorrow.  In the meantime, I believe it’s time to go to bed… a familiar, comfortable one!

One Response to “quickie…”

  1. Gee, guess I am glad you are home but was certainly enjoying the trip with you. I swear Becky, you should be a travel writer. Jackie
