TOBER's Blog
Traveling on 2 wheels with us old broads…

This whole blog/internet thing is driving me crazy.  It’s 11:20 and I’ve been working on the blog for the past 2 hours.  Yes, I “saved” the draft every 10 or 15 minutes.  Guess what?!?!  It’s gone!!!

Once again, I think the last post was on Sunday so I’ll try to catch you up.  Sunday we were off for a full day of riding.  Stopped for breakfast in Maryville, the Harley shop for a bulb replacement and then on our way.  We drove through Townsend and the Smoky Mountain National Park.  Then to Gatlinburg for another HD stop and a bbq lunch.  The rides continue to be beautiful.  Weather has really been cooperating with us too.  After lunch we crossed the mountains and into Cherokee, NC and on to our final planned ride of the day…  THE TAIL OF THE DRAGON.  US129.  318 curves in 11 miles.  Mary and I had ridden it in 2006 but we did our best to perpetuate the hype for the rest of the group.  I am pleased to report that the Dragon has been tamed!!!  It was a great ride and a fitting way to end our day.

Tuesday, we checked out of the motel and hit the road again.  There is now a Harley shop just a couple of miles from the Dragon’s end so we ran back up for a couple of souveniers.  We caught the Foothills Parkway from there, back into Townsend for lunch.  Then across the mountain again and onto the Blue Ridge Parkway for our trek to Maggie Valley, NC.  We checked into our motel, a quaint Mom/Pop place with rockers outside in front of each room.  We’ve had pretty good luck with accomodations so far.  Being our fifth day on the road, we were due to wash clothes.  So, off we go to find a laudromat.  What an exciting afternoon.  Actually, all six of us went and we managed to make even that chore fun.  So now we all have clean clothes and we’re fixing to have full tummies too.  Tonight we dined at Hurley’s.  Recommended by our motel hostess, it turned out to be very good.  Prime rib, fresh trout, rib-eye steak… I think we were all quite satisfied.  Another good day!

More tomorrow…..
