Around Lafayette

April 19, 2012

Now as we left breakfast, we happened across this interesting sight!  Remants of Mardi Gras past, I’m sure!  This was not the only place the errant beads were spotted…  also hanging off of traffic lights and street signs!  Guess they really did “pass a good time”!  And I wonder, was this just from one […]

Breakfast at the French Press

April 19, 2012

Very cool place that we decided to treat ourselves to this morning.  It was located in the historic section of downtown in an old printing press business of some sorts.  And Don’s ORIGINAL Seafood Restaurant was located just across the street. After a short study of the menu and a brief discussion with our server, […]

April 18, 2012

We rolled into Lafayette a little past 6. Once we checked into the motel and got a good supper referral we were headed to Lagneaux’s for a seafood buffet. I won’t take up much more of your time except to tell you what all was on the buffet…. shrimp etoufee, seafood gumbo, boudin, fried shrimp, […]

April 18, 2012

After a brief argument with LOLA (our gps), we finally made it to the McIlhenny Tabasco factory. We could have been there an hour earlier if I had my way but as it turned out, we took a little scenic tour of New Iberia. Sometimes I know better than to believe what she is telling […]

What’s for supper?!?

April 17, 2012

We made it to Abbeville for the night. Once we checked into the motel, we shed our rain gear and headed out for supper. Taking the advice of the guy on the ferry and then double checking him with the desk clerk and some other bikers out front of the motel, we went looking for […]

Ferry ride.

April 17, 2012

Somewhere down around Cameron we ended up on a ferry. I’m still not sure if this was crossing Caleasieu Lake or one of the many intracoastal waterways. Some of you may not believe it, but this one wasn’t even planned… it just jumped up there in front of us. And drawbridges… we crossed 5 (I […]

Louisiana road hazard.

April 17, 2012

Shortly after the ferry ride and somewhere around Creole, we left Hwy 27 and hooked ’em on down Hwy 82. Still lots more marshland but now not so many wildflowers. What we did notice, though, was all of the oleanders and the live oaks. Both of which were huge. Some of the oleanders we saw […]

Leaving Natchitoches

April 17, 2012

Left Natchitoches in the middle of some pretty crappy weather. But I must admit when I first got out of bed it was pouring down rain… so I just went back to bed. By the time I really rolled out, the torrential rains had subsided and it was just a slight sprinkle. We decided to […]

The Creole Nature Trail

April 17, 2012

We picked up the sunshine around DeQuincy and the Creole Nature Trail around Sulphur. Great highway. It’s Hwy 27 if any of you want to make the drive. Lots of marshland, tons of wildflowers, wind in my hair (I mean helmet) and the smell of salt air!

Tempura shrimp with California rolls and miso soup.

April 16, 2012

Checked into the motel and unloaded the luggage but decided to grab a bite before we shed all the wet clothes. When we were here a couple of years ago with Mom and Mindy, we tried to eat at Lasyone’s. They specialize in the “world famous” Natchitoches meat pies. Not only were we unable to […]
